In its guidelines, the journalists’ association netzwerk recherche demands a new “culture of accuracy”: “New models of fact-checking should be tested, new research jobs should be created“. To secure the accuracy of information only few German newsrooms have established work routines that follow Anglo-Saxon examples. At some of the biggest names in the news-industry, fact-checkers work tirelessly behind the scenes to prevent reporting errors. What are the advantages and drawbacks of this method? How can journalists who work without fact-checkers in the background benefit from the experience of fact-checking systems? And what significance does fact-checking have in the era of Wikipedia and online news?
